George D. Smith Jr., CFA, is Co-Founder and CEO of Trusco Investment Management. George is responsible for portfolio construction and client service. George was born in Nashville in 1964 and attended Southern Methodist University (BBA 1987). Upon graduation he began his investment career as a Series 7 licensed broker with First American National bank. He served both the individual and corporate marketplace providing equity, fixed income, and insurance investments for varying strategies.
In 1990, George again attended SMU attaining an MBA and moving to Atlanta, Georgia. George resumed his investment career as a portfolio manager with Trusco Capital Management. As an institutional investment manager, George worked initially with retirement accounts, eventually transitioning to specialize in the endowment and private foundation arena. George managed diverse investment portfolios totaling over a billion dollars in retirement, foundation, and endowment assets. George moved to Nashville in 2001 with Trusco Capital and continues to live there today. George attained his Chartered Financial Analyst designation in 1996.
In 2008, George became head of Asset Allocation for SunTrust Institutional Investment Advisors while managing the same clients he had developed at Trusco Capital.
In 2010, George became a portfolio manager for institutional and high net worth individuals for US Trust. There he managed or co-managed over $450 million in assets.
In 2015, with substantial experience and desire to form a better investment management experience, George joined his longtime friend and current partner Tom Landstreet as Managing Director of Wealth Management and Portfolio Strategies of Tell-Tale Capital Management.
George is married to Julie and has two outstanding girls, McCauley and Coco and two male neutered dogs. His hands are full.
